These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the HireScribe website at gethirescribe.com (the "Site") and your purchase of a HireScribe Pro license. Your installation and use of the HireScribe application is additionally governed by our End User License Agreement (EULA), and your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Site or purchasing a license, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who We Are

HireScribe ("HireScribe," "we," "us," or "our") is a desktop application for recruiters that records, transcribes, and summarizes interviews locally on your device. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and HireScribe.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a legally binding contract to use the Site or purchase a license. If you are using HireScribe on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. The Software: Free and Pro

  • Free: Recording, file upload, transcription, and speaker identification are available at no charge. No account is required to download or run the app.
  • Pro: AI-generated summaries are unlocked with a one-time Pro license. Pro is a perpetual license, not a subscription, and includes software updates released during the twelve (12) months following purchase.
  • License rights, restrictions, and activation are described in full in the EULA, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

4. Purchases, Pricing, and Payment

4.1 Merchant of Record

All purchases are processed by our authorized merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy, LLC. When you buy a Pro license, your payment, invoicing, and any chargebacks are handled by Lemon Squeezy, and their terms of sale apply to the transaction in addition to these Terms.

4.2 Taxes

As merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy calculates, collects, and remits applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST based on your location. Prices displayed on the Site are in U.S. dollars; the final price and currency shown at checkout may include applicable taxes for your jurisdiction.

4.3 Pricing Changes

We may change the price of a Pro license at any time. Price changes do not affect licenses you have already purchased.

4.4 License Keys

Upon purchase you receive a License Key by email. Keep it secure. You are responsible for activity under your License Key. We may disable a License Key obtained fraudulently, charged back, or used in violation of the EULA.

5. Refunds — All Sales Final

Try before you buy. All license sales are final.

Recording and transcription are free forever, so you can install HireScribe and use it on real interviews before purchasing. The $79 Pro license only unlocks the AI summary feature. Because you can fully evaluate the application at no cost before buying, all Pro license purchases are final and non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law. Where Lemon Squeezy, LLC (our merchant of record) is legally obligated to provide a refund, their buyer terms govern that process.

6. Acceptable Use of the Site

When using the Site, you agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its servers, or related systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Site
  • Scrape, harvest, or collect information about other users
  • Introduce malware or any malicious code
  • Misrepresent your affiliation with HireScribe or any other person or entity

7. Your Responsibilities When Recording

HireScribe provides tools to record and manage consent, but you are solely responsible for obtaining proper consent and complying with all recording, wiretapping, and data-protection laws in your jurisdiction. We do not provide legal advice. See the EULA for a detailed recording-law compliance notice covering the United States, EU, UK, Canada, and Australia.

8. Intellectual Property

  • Our property: The Site, the HireScribe software, and all related trademarks, logos, text, and design are owned by HireScribe and protected by intellectual property laws.
  • Your content: You retain all rights to the recordings, transcripts, and summaries you create with HireScribe. We claim no ownership over your content and never receive it — it stays on your device.
  • Feedback: Any feedback or suggestions you share with us may be used without obligation or compensation to you.

9. Third-Party Services and Open Source

The Site and software rely on third-party services and open-source components, including Lemon Squeezy (payments), GitHub (software downloads), and bundled open-source AI models (Whisper, llama.cpp, Qwen, pyannote). Your use of those components may be subject to their respective terms and licenses, as listed in the software's third-party notices.

10. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

AI accuracy: AI-generated transcripts and summaries may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies and cannot be 100% accurate in all conditions. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-generated content before relying on it.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HireScribe shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Site or software. In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the software in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim (or $100 USD if the software was provided free of charge). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HireScribe from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Site or software, your violation of these Terms, or your failure to obtain proper recording consent or comply with applicable laws.

13. Changes to These Terms and the Service

We may modify these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We may also modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site or software at any time.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Illinois, except where prohibited by applicable law.
